chevron.

I really love Chevron print just about everywhere! I would love to put some Chevron somewhere in our house, whether it be in the form of curtains, a rug, or maybe even bathroom walls? I think it will add a modern element to our otherwise traditional style.

Hope you're having a terrific Tuesday morning!

PS. We have a new closing date! Next Friday (September 9th) we will, hopefully, be signing our lives away! Say a little prayer that we don't get held up again...not because we are under a huge time constraint, but because we don't want the sellers to become (more) impatient and back out.

Amen. This is going in our kitchen.
Happy Friday! Hope you have a great and safe weekend :)

wedding diy projects

Between my mom, sister, florist, Bo, and myself (as inspired by Pinterest), we've come up with several DIY wedding projects. To some we are committed, and some we are just considering at the moment.

1. Sewing your own table runners: definitely.

A. Because they will be a low-cost, big effect, punch of color for the reception, and with very little effort (or so we thought).

B. Because we have now invested ourselves. After several trips to fabrics stores (here and in Florida), calls all over the state, favors from fabric store employees/friends, we've made a lot of headway and (I just know it!) are on the cusp of finding 18 yards of affordable dark purple/plum fabric (we have our eye on some Sew Classic at JoAnns). AND my parents took about an hour of their time with their small group last night to fix our sewing machine. We WILL make table runners, if its the last thing we do.

My mom, dad, and friends figuring this bad boy out. As of right now, we are ready to sew!

2. DIY cupcake wrappers: definitely.

I was talking to my friend last night (who is probably my next friend to walk down the aisle!) about wedding budgeting. She asked how we have set the budget for our wedding. For us, it has worked better to not have a number looming over our heads that we absolutely cannot cross. You don't really know what things are going to cost until you start calling catering companies, dj's, florists, etc. As we go along in the planning process, we research that particular element of the wedding/reception and decide what it is worth to us. For us, having a beautiful, fancy cake is not a priority. I just can't fathom spending almost a grand on something people are going to eat and smear on each others faces.  So, we've decided to save a ton of money by getting cupcakes instead. They will be 1/4 the cost of a cake, and they just look cool.

You can also fancy them up yourself by sitting the cupcakes in these pretty wrappers:

These cost about $45 for 50 wrappers. Which translates to another $200 (almost as much as the cupcakes themselves!)
SO, I came across this DIY version on Pinterest:

I haven't priced doilies yet, but I'm sure this will cut our cost down to about $10. Great way to save some money, and an easy afternoon project!

3. DIY photobooth: maybe.

Bo and I both love the idea of having a photo booth at our wedding. After a drink or two, our friends and family would probably record some pretty funny memories for us. However, professional photo booths cost upwards of $800.  I just can't make myself do that. It seems wrong.

Time to DIY. We've thrown around several ideas. Audrey told me about instant cameras (not quite as old-school as Polaroids) that she has seen before. I found some online!

$80 per camera on www.theknot.com

Then, Bo came up with the idea of making our own photo booth area at the reception, using some fabric, props, and our instant camera. I found this pic online of someone else that has done the same thing using a refrigerator box and fabric.

This would cost us about $150 compared to $800+. We haven't decided yet if we are going to do this, for various reasons, but I think it's a great idea!

If you have any suggestions for us, let me know! Have a great day...it's almost FRIDAY!!

it's about to get Uggla

If you follow the Atlanta Braves, you know Dan Uggla. #26 hit a home run as soon as we sat down in our seats on Saturday night in Turner Field, and all because Bo and I brought this home made sign:

We had so much fun watching the Braves sweep the D-backs and hanging out with Bo's buddy (who lives near the ATL) and his girlfriend. Bo looks like the guy with the "pudding face" on those new commercials when he's watching the Braves. You can also see us on tv if you look reeeally close during the last 2 outs of the game on Sunday.  Can't wait to go back!

P.S. I've periodically stopped the "countdown to home" because we might not be able to close on Friday d/t the turtle-like speed of Heritage Trust loan officers. However, we are praying it will still happen. If not, next week, no biggie!

countdown to home...it's in the details

7 days!

A house isn't a home until you make it personal...it's all in the little details :)

I'm a sucker for a good gallery wall...filled with pictures of friends and family.

I think this would be so cute on the front door in place of a wreath for Christmas!

(DIY) These hearts are cut from maps of different meaningful places! i.e. where you met, where you got married, where your first child was born, where you've traveled or would like to travel. Such a neat idea.

(DIY) This is just a framed piece of fabric (your choice to match your decor). Use a dry erase marker to create a weekly menu for the kitchen like this one, or whatever your heart desires.

Again, sucker for a gallery wall. Love the idea of mixing and matching frames going up the staircase in our house.

You can find so many cool prints like these on Etsy...or you can make one yourself!

This will have to be somewhere in our house. Except ours might say "winter, baseball, summer, football".

Well, T.G.I.F. Bo and I are heading to the ATL tomorrow to watch the Braves. Have a great weekend!

pondering paint colors...

So, we are REALLY closing on our home on August 26th! Only a little over a week to go, and I (oops, I mean "we") need to make some concrete decisions about paint colors.  The goal is to get all of our walls/trim painted and floors cleaned before we move any furniture in. Ideally, before the end of the weekend...Yeah. I know.

If you didn't see the post about our house, here is a recap of what this area looks like now:

Here are some colors I think would look beautiful in against the linen white of the wainscoting and dark stained hardwood:

Grey Wisp by Benjamin Moore

Halycon Green by Sherwin Williams

Wedgewood Grey by Benjamin Moore
Twilight Grey by Behr

For the upstairs hallways and guest bedrooms/office, I think we will stick with a shade of beige or grey, nice and neutral, and NOT this heinous brown:

Current downstairs bedroom

Hazy Skies by Benjamin Moore

Jute by Benjamin Moore

Sharkey Grey by Martha Stewart

I think we will go with any of these blues/beiges/greys for the master bedroom and bathrooms as well. Possibly from these palettes...

I still have about a week to narrow it down to 3-4 colors for the whole house! Honestly, I'm not organized/patient/picky enough to go through the hassle of buying samples and seeing how the paint actually looks, dried, on our walls. Bo and I will probably walk into Lowe's on Thursday afternoon, buy 3 colors of paint that are similar to these hues, sand, tape, paint, and move on.

This is going to be a big undertaking. We are heavily recruiting volunteers! with drinks and pizza in return for your services :).

I found this little tip on Pinterest to prevent your paint brush from dripping...

Just a simple rubber band, and wa-la! Automatic paint drip stopper.

Any other helpful tips you've discovered in your own painting/sanding/taping/spackling adventures?

Fun weekend

My bridesmaids (my sister, future sis-in-law, and some of my best friends for the past 10 years) and I spent the weekend in Charleston to celebrate my last few months as a single lady! We had so much fun just hanging out, eating, shopping for some fancy honeymoon-wear, and going out! Thanks for a great weekend y'all! Here are a few pics from the weekend...
